8 & 9 November 2025
Tokyo
This year’s guest ofthe Seminar on Contemporary Austrian Literature was Nava Ebrahimi – one of themost important voices in contemporary Austrian literature.
Born in Iran, raised in Germany, and based in Graz since 2012, Ebrahimi writes about migration, identity, and the fragile balance between belonging and alienation.
Her award-winning work– including the 2021 Bachmann Prize for Der Cousin – combines keenobservation with linguistic subtlety and cultural depth.
At this seminar, leading Germanists in Japan gathered to discuss Ebrahimi’s works, focusing on her major publications SechzehnWörter (Sixteen Words), Das Paradies meines Nachbarn (MyNeighbor’s Paradise), as well as her forthcoming novel Und Federn überall.
